Welcome
Hey there, glad you could make it, now if you're sitting comfortably i shall tell you a little story of the origin of how this Marathon came to be.....
Once upon a time, in a Galaxy far far away (well, Brighton actually) a wee baby boy was born so small (4.5lbs) that he had to be incubated for the first few weeks of his life. He couldn't even claim the title of premature, he was just small. (all together now...)
He was also born with whats called a Heart Murmur, which although not terribly serious, it did require him to have regular visits at the local hospital, which he didn't like.
Huge X-Ray monsters and ECG machines, which bleeped and flashed, used to frighten this young boy and it was on one particularly unhappy occasion that his Dr said to him, "Peter don't cry, you will be a fit and healthy young man, in fact i guarantee you will one day be able to run a Marathon".
(He was also told that one day he would be the six million dollar man, fortunately he has let that one go!)
The End.
So thats how the seed was planted, over 30 years ago. I guess i knew that when the time came it would have to be extra special, and special it has become!!
I had the crazy idea of the "LIVE AS I DO IT" broadcast mid Jan as coming from a fitness perspective i wondered what it would be like to actually hear and feel what it would be like to run a marathon, all the blood sweat and tears. What goes through the mind at 15miles, 20miles etc?
I found out that no one else had done it before, so it was also going to be a great PR/awareness opportunity for the charity i am running for, Born Free and hopefully many donations will be made.
You can click onto the link for their website and see what they are up too. Also to make a donation click onto my "justgiving" link, it set up to take secure online donations.
Ok, must go now and get into my red tracksuit and leap a few buildings in slow motion....
The Born Free Foundation is a dynamic international wildlife charity working throughout the wild to save lives, stop suffering, conserve species, protect wild animals and keep wildlife in the wild. To make a donation click here.
